Throughout June we were delighted to host a series of events, workshops and installations to celebrate the London Festival of Architecture 2024.
Together with Haringey Council, the Park and Palace were selected as participants in the Festival, which is an annual month-long celebration of architecture and city-making, taking place across London.
The theme of this year’s festival was ‘Re-imagine’ which explored how people can reflect on and rethink public spaces in a time of climate change, cost of living crisis and social inequality.
AP Sounds created a radio station mixing conversation, music and sound broadcasting live from Platform 1 of Alexandra Palace Station. Organised by sound and transmission artist Jessica Sammut, the radio station’s conversations focused on themes of community, connectivity and regeneration, including letting commuters to have their say on the transforming spaces in their local area.
Behind the Scenes: By the People BBC Studios Tour was designed for the Festival by artist-teacher Alix Smith and encouraged visitors to explore future uses of the historic spaces inside the Palace.
Library Lates at Wood Green Central Library, organised by Ally Pally’s Young Creators Network and Haringey Council, transformed a public library into a heady night of live music, DJs and performance in the heart of Wood Green.
Into the Grove, led by architectural cooperative Unit38 and designers Studio Hyte, encourage people to explore potential ideas for improvements to the Grove area of Alexandra Park. The event featured family activities, music and performances, and explored ideas for the area including improving accessibility and legibility, enhancing the feeling of safety and elevating the biodiversity of the Grove.
Connecting People and Places was a mini-trail featuring three pieces of thought-provoking art on a route between Wood Green and Alexandra Palace. The theme of the trail was based around moving through the world with a disability, and featured work from John Dewey Specialist College students, Alexandra Palace’s Young Creators Network and local artists.
