‘Section 28 and The Queer State’ – a promenade performance

As part of Jacksons Lane ‘Haringey Has Pride’ LGBTQ+ heritage project. Made by Kay Adshead and company.

In 1986, Section 28 banned local authorities from ‘promoting homosexuality’, and damned same-sex parents as ‘pretend families’.

In 2019, we take the audience on a magical journey through the magnificent Alexandra Palace, and explore Haringey’s historic struggle to repeal Section 28. With a robust mix of community and professional cast, and incorporating local choir ‘The Angels of Kaos’, we celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and deconstruct the very notion of ‘family’.

Our epic play ends on the stage of the iconic Victorian theatre, as we spin into a fantastical imagined future, dramatizing the possibilities of ‘A Queer Future’, inventing a ‘Theatre of Hope’.

Please arrive in the East Court at 5pm and 8pm for a prompt start at 5:30pm and 8:30pm. This is a promenade performance, moving around multiple spaces in Alexandra Palace both inside and outside.

Please do get in touch with Ben Price (Jackson’s Lane Creative Heritage Manager) if you would like to do discuss any access requirements. Haringey Has Pride is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Haringey Council and Arts Council England.

Please dress appropriately for outdoors. Please wear appropriate footwear as it is a promenade piece and walking is involved.
