We were delighted to welcome back visitors to our annual Fireworks Festival on Saturday, 6 November.

Photographer Jarlenn Severino captured the best of the action throughout the night, including the spectacular display, bonfire, funfair, fire dancers, ice rink, bier festival, DJ sets and Spice Girls show. Below are a selection of her pictures.

Jarlenn was a participant in The New Decade, a recent photography project run by the Palace’s Creative Learning team, which encouraged young photographers to explore themes of isolation during lockdown.

Jareleen: “Working at the Fireworks event was an incredible experience. It was my first time photographing an event like this one, and no doubt it was overwhelming, but the best way possible. The event and the atmosphere itself were so amazing, and it was such a pleasure to be able to work at an event and do what you love.”

“I knew that I wasn’t going to get a wide shot capturing the entire event. So my intention was to capture as much of the atmosphere, including the attendees. I thought about what I would want to see and what image would make me go, ‘Hey, I wish I was there or a part of the festival.”

“Taking part in The New Decade made me push my boundaries with how I can create and use photography to showcase a message or theme. Not to only look at it as an art medium but see it as a tool to evoke something more. The workshops encouraged me and everyone else to push beyond the limits of our ideas, and it’s a great creative space to be a part of.”
