Green funding for lighting and solar power

As part of our charity’s work to become a sustainable home for all that we do, we are carrying out two new green energy projects this summer.

Thanks to £27,000 of funding from Haringey Council’s Carbon Community Fund, we will be installing LEDs into our outdoor lighting and solar panels onto the Alexandra Park sports club roof.

In total 52 of our beautiful blue lanterns – the ones you see across the Park and Palace – will now feature low energy LED lights. These have been colour-matched, so will retain the existing soft-lighting effect. We estimate a saving of 7,000kWh per year, the equivalent to the power used by three averaged-sized houses.

We are working with Alexandra Park sports club – home to dozens of football and cricket teams and arguably among the most scenic sports grounds in London – to install 24 solar panels on the roof of the clubhouse that’s nestled in the south-east corner of the Park. This will help to generate approximately 10,000kWh of electricity each year, and enable us to learn more about the possibilities of solar power here at Ally Pally. A generation display will show the 14,000 visiting players, officials and spectators how much energy is being produced.
