In amongst all the fun, the events and activities we host at the Palace bring significant benefit to the regional economy and provide vital job opportunities for local people and professionals across the creative industries.
A new report for 2024, carried out by AMION Consulting, has shed light on the economic impact of the Park and Palace. It finds that the events and activities we host contribute £99.8 million per year to the London economy (£83.4 million net) and £47.2 million in Haringey. They also provided the equivalent of 1,601 full time jobs in London (1,324 net) and 659 in Haringey.
This impact, known as Gross Value Added (GVA), is generated in a number of ways, including:
- attracting visitors to Haringey and London who spend money with regional/local businesses such as restaurants, hotels, bars, shops and transport providers
- hosting events at the Palace that provide employment opportunities for artists and freelancers in technical, creative and service industry roles, among others
- directly employing people in a range of jobs
- leasing premises to tenants and businesses
The figures show promising progress on previous years. Corresponding reports from AMION Consulting show that the economic impact in 2022/2023 was £94.5 million in London (£79.7 million net) and £45.6 million in Haringey. Meanwhile, economic impact in 2019/2020 was £68.6 million in London (£61.1 million net) and £39 million net in Haringey.
The study is part of our charity’s ongoing work to ensure Ally Pally is having a positive impact: from restoring the Park and Palace so that they are here for future generations; providing vital green space and connecting people to living heritage; to creating opportunities for millions to immerse themselves in the arts, culture and learning.
Emma Dagnes OBE, Alexandra Park and Palace Charitable Trust CEO:

“The positives of providing people access to culture, learning, heritage and green space are immense. As we do this, we are also providing vital jobs, support to local businesses and opportunities for growth across our sectors.
“It demonstrates that the Park and Palace aren’t just a ‘nice to have’. We are essential.
“As ever, we aren’t standing still. Our ambitions and ideas for the future of Alexandra Palace are huge. As we restore more of the Palace, improve the Park, embrace green energy solutions and expand our programmes, we will deliver even greater impact for our community, city and beyond.”
