Friday Night Is Music Night – Paris in the Jazz Age
Swinging jazz, sizzling melodies and sheer glamour as the BBC Concert Orchestra raises a glass of champagne to jazz-age Paris – and gets ready to party like it’s 1929.
We love Paris in the springtime! Well, who doesn’t? – and tonight, on Friday Night is Music Night, Alexandra Palace becomes the Hot Club de France, with a toe-tapping, cocktail-sipping salute to the spirit of jazz, French style.
Violinist and conductor Fiona Monbet is a jazz legend in her own right – an artist who lives and breathes the spirit of the great Django Reinhardt. So join her, and clarinettist extraordinaire Giacomo Smith, as the BBC Concert Orchestra foxtrots back to the roaring Twenties – the era of Gershwin, Cole Porter and Sidney Bechet – before jumping forward to the smoky cafés and light-night cabarets of Edith Piaf. Gershwin’s An American in Paris gets things swinging, but that’s not even the half of it. Sizzling jazz and effortless chic; wine-stained ballads and chansons to break your heart – anything’s possible when you hit the town in the City of Light.
