Vox Holloway Salutes The Kinks
Vox Holloway is bringing the music of The Kinks to our Theatre this July.
To celebrate 60 years of The Kinks, Vox Holloway, the University of Southampton Voices, and the children of Campsbourne School, with soloists and a 12-piece band, will perform two of their finest albums – Arthur and The Village Green Preservation Society. Many of the songs reflect the band’s upbringing in Muswell Hill.
The Village Green Preservation Society is a unique musical fusion of vaudeville, oompah, music hall, palm court, and blues, all bound together by The Kinks’ signature rock style. It paints a nostalgic and whimsical portrait of English life, celebrating eccentric characters and timeless themes. Arthur (Or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire), on the other hand, is a concept album that tells a poignant story about emigration, war, and domestic life, showcasing Ray Davies’ sharp social commentary and masterful songwriting.
At the invitation of Ray Davies, Harvey Brough arranged these iconic LPs for the singers of Vox Holloway in 2018. Now, they will bring these classic songs back to The Kinks’ old stomping ground.
